Privacy Policy
The Compound ("we," "us," or "the Publication") respects your privacy. This policy describes what information we collect when you visit thecompoundbrief.com or subscribe to the newsletter, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding that information.
1. What we collect
When you subscribe, we collect:
- Email address. Required for delivery of the newsletter and the lead-magnet PDF.
- Optional first name. Used for personalization in welcome and issue emails when provided.
- Subscription metadata. Date and timestamp of opt-in, IP address (used for fraud and abuse prevention), and referring URL or campaign source if applicable.
- Engagement data. Whether you opened a given issue and which links you clicked — used to improve future issues and to remove disengaged subscribers from our list.
2. How we use it
- To send the welcome sequence and the Sunday newsletter.
- To deliver the lead-magnet PDF you requested at signup.
- To analyze which issues and topics resonate with subscribers in aggregate.
- To respond to your replies and direct emails.
- To comply with applicable law, including CAN-SPAM and consumer protection statutes.
We do not sell your email address. We do not share it with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not use it to retarget you with paid ads on third-party platforms.
3. Who we share with
We share data only with vetted service providers that operate under data-protection contracts, including:
- Beehiiv — our email service provider, which hosts the newsletter list and sends the emails.
- Analytics provider — we use a privacy-respecting analytics tool (Plausible, Google Analytics 4, or similar) to measure aggregate site traffic.
- Hosting and CDN providers — standard infrastructure providers for the website itself.
We disclose information when required by law, in response to a valid subpoena or court order, or to protect our rights, property, or safety.
4. Cookies and tracking
We use cookies for the basics: remembering whether you've already subscribed and keeping the site functioning. If you have not consented to non-essential cookies (analytics, retargeting), those will not run. Do-Not-Track signals are honored.
5. Your rights
You can unsubscribe from any email at any time using the unsubscribe link in every issue, or by replying with "unsubscribe." To request access, correction, or deletion of any data we hold about you, email hello@thecompoundbrief.com. We respond within 30 days.
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you specific rights including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of any sale of personal information — we do not sell personal information, but you have the right to confirm that. Contact the address above to exercise these rights.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another GDPR-equivalent jurisdiction, please note: we do not currently market to or knowingly accept subscribers from those jurisdictions. If you have signed up from one of those regions in error, contact us and we will delete your record.
6. Data retention
We keep subscription data for as long as you remain on the list and for up to 24 months after unsubscribe for compliance and audit purposes. Aggregate analytics data is kept indefinitely in de-identified form.
7. Children
The Compound is intended for an adult audience and is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete the record.
8. Changes to this policy
Material changes to this policy will be communicated via email to current subscribers and dated on this page. Continued use of the site or newsletter after a material change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
